PROPOSED IMPOSITION OF CIVIL PENALTY - $75,000 j This is to inform the Commission that a Notice of Violation and ,

Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalty in the amount of $ 75,000 l will be issued on or about August 17, 1993 to the GPU Nuclear {

Corporation (Oyster Creek). This action is based on five [

radiological controls violations that were identified as the i result of two entries made into a highly contaminated high radiation area without proper radiological controls.  ;

Collectively, the violations have been classified as a Severity :i Level III problem. The base civil penalty of-$50,000 has been j escalated a total of 50 percent to $75,000 based on the prior  !

performance and corrective action factors, j It should be noted that the licensee has not been specifically  !

informed of the enforcement action. The schedule of issuance and  !

notification is: l t

The State of New Jersey will be notified.

The licensee has thirty days from the date of the Notice in which j to respond. Following NRC evaluation of the response, the civil penalty may be remitted, mitigated, or imposed by Order.
