Docket No. 50-263 Docket No. 50-282 Locket No. 50-306 James D. Woodburn, M.D.,

MSc.

Corporate Medical Director Northern States Power Company 414 Nicollet Mall Minneapolis, MN 55402

Dear Dr. Woodburn:

We have received your inquiry addressed to Mary Ann Bies of my staff regarding a conference of medical reviewers in Region III facilities.

While we believe your idea has considerable merit, we are not able to support your request for NRC participation at this time.

However, I would like to propose alternative suggestions for your consideration.

1.

You may wish to contact your fellow corporate medical directors at the other Region III facilities and arrange a meeting on your own.

I have enclosed a listing of Region III facility training managers who can provide you with names and telephone numbers of their medical directors.

2.

The Nuclear Management and Resources Council (NUMARC) may be interested in sponsoring such a conference. You may contact Dr. Robert Whitesel or Mr. Robert Evans at 202-872-1280.

3.

Working Group ANS-3.4 of the American Nuclear Society Standards Committee is seeking participants.

If you would like information about this group or are interested in becoming a committee member, you may contact David Lange who is the NRC representative on this committee.

Mr. Lange is located at our NRC Headquarters office in Rockville, Maryland, and can be reached at 301-504-3171.

We appreciate your interest in this matter. We will contact you in the future if our situation changes.

Sincerely,
