SUBJECT:
MAIN STEAM ISOLATION VALVE TESTING COMMITMENT As requested in your June 7,1993 letter, the staff has reviewed the revision to the commitment made in Licensee Event Report (LER) 93-00,8 concerning testing of the main steam isolation valves (MSIVs).. As stated in your letter and as discussed during a June 9,1993 telephone conversation between Leif Dietrich of your staff and myself, the staff understands River Bend is modifying the commitment to fast full stroke exercise the main steam isolation valves during cold shutdowns as stated below:
For intervals of 3 months or longer - exercise the valves during each cold shutdown.
For intervals of less than 3 months - full stroke exercise of the valves is not required unless 3 months have passed since the last cold shutdown exercise.
The staff does not object to the change to the LER commitment.
