Centimmen2 Northern States Pwer has recuested, by letter dated warch 17,1966, an informal review of the suitability, from a safety standpoint, of its Fonticello, Finnesota site for_ a single crcle, forced circulation, boiling water reactor desirned to operate at about ll.09 wt.
A visit to the Fonticello site was av:de by me::ibers of the staff on April 13,1966 Subsequently, a subcournittee cf the Advisory comnittee on Fesctor Safeguards considered the proposal on Pay 4,1966, and the application was considered by the full Cennittee on May 5,19% at its seventy-third meeting. A copy of the Committee's report is attached.
In the report the Coennittee concludes that the proposed site is i
acceptable for a reactor of the general type and power level proposed if adequate containment and associated engineering safeguards are provided.

Based ou our evaluation of the information provided in your March 17, 1966 nubnittal, we have concluded that the Konicello location should be suitable for a nuclear reactor of the type described if arpropriate engineered safeguards are provided.
