" San Onofre, Intake Structure Evaluation," under Contract NRC-03-87-028 This task order is being issued to replace the previous Task Order No.12 dated May 14, 1990 under which NRC inadvertently omitted the required accounting and appropriation data.

In accordance with section G 8, Task Order Procedures _,.of the subject contract, this letter definitizes Task Order 12.

This effort shall be performed in accordance with the enclosed Statement of Work and Vikings

-proposal dated April 16, 1990 incorporated herein by reference.

The period of performance for Task Order 12 is April-18, 1990 through October _ 15, 1990.

The total cost ceiling is $3_2,345.89.

The amount of

$29,620.78 represents-the total estimated reimbursable costs, the amount of

$2,725.11 represents the fixed fee.

,B]Q' GROUND The intake structure of the San Onofre Nuclear Power Generating Station Unit 1 (SONGS 1) has been showing signs of corrosion of the bars resulting in degrada-tion of the concrete structure since 1984.

Since then, the licensee has added a number of steel plates anchored into the structure to strengthen the degrading structure. The licensee also implemented a surveillance program to monitor the rate of degradation. As result of the review of the surveillance reports of Ic86 and 1988, the staff has found that the degradation' of the structure is 'a continuing process and sent a request for information (pAI) to the licensee ex-pressing concerns.
