This refers to the special safety inspection conducted by Mr. G. L. Shear of this office on June 7,1990, to review the circumstances surrounding the loss of four polonium-210 static elemination devices and to the discussion of our-findings with you at the conclusion of the inspection.
The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selec'ive examination cf procedures and representative records, observations, and interviews with personnel.
During this inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in violation of NRC requirements, as described in the enclosed Notice. The inspection showed that. actions had'been taken to correct the identified violation and to prevent recurrence. Our understanding of your corrective actions is described in Section 3-of the inspection report. Consequently, no reply to the violation is required and weihave no further questions regarding this matter at this time.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
We will gladly discuss any questions you have concerning this inspection.
