Dear Mr. Seidle:
This letter provides an update on the evaluation of the failed studs on an Essential Service Water (ESW) pipe support embedded plate.
As stated in the Reference, the Architect / Engineer had to evaluate the impact of using a seismic response spectrum which is higher than the original site-specific (non-SNUPPS) design spectrum. This evaluation had to be performed before the evaluation of the failed stud test data could be finalized. The evaluation of the impact of the increased response spectrum and the analysis of the failed stud have now been completed. The results are under final review by our Architect / Engineer and the final evaluation should be sent to Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KG&E) within two weeks. KG&E will then review the Architect / Engineer's evaluation and disposition prior to submitting a final report to the NRC.
We will send the final report, or advise you of any delay, on this potential 10CFR50.55(e) item on or before August 10, 1982.
