GP&L Carohna Power & Light Company JUN 18.1982 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation g
ATTN:
Mr. D. B. Vassallo, Chief.
Operating Reactors Branch No. 2 United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.
20555 BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-325 AND 50-324 LICENSE NOS. DPR-71 AND DPR-62 ISI VALVE TEST SCHEDULE REVISION
Dear Mr. Vassallo:
On March 2,1981, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) submitted a new In-Service Inspection (ISI) and Test Program for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP) Unit Nos. I and 2.
The program was updated in accordance with the requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI, of the 1977 edition through the Summer 1978 addendum, and complied with the requirements set forth in 10CFR 50.55a(g).
The following changes are being submitted to the above test programs to resolve inappropriate classifications.in our March 2,.1981 submittal:
1.
Four check valves (Ell-F050A and Ell-F050B; E21-F006A and E21-F006B) are listed as valve categories A and C.
These valves are being reclassified as only category C valves. Containment isolation on-these lines is actually provided by dual motor-operated valves in each line (Ell-F015A and E11-F017A; Ell-F015B and Ell-F017B; E21-F005A and E21-F004A; E21-F005B and E21-F0048).
The second motor-operated valves in each line (Ell-F017A and Ell-F017B; E21-F004A and E21-F004B) are presently classified as category B valves and are being reclassified as category A valves.
They are constructed to the same design and installation requirements as the first motor-operated valves and provide more positive containment isolation than~the check valves, which prevents over-pressurization of upstream injection piping.
2.
The motor-operated. valves listed below were inappropriately-categorized as both category A and B valves. Since these are conflicting categories, the schedule is changed to reflect-these containment isolation valves ~ as category A valves only.
