., PLANT SITE SURVEY A. PURPOSE . .

To provide a procedure for the detection, identification and measurement of radioactive contamination outside of the operating buildings and within the controlled area of the plant site. This survey will be performed once each year or more often as determined by Plant Management.

8. SAFETY

1. Observe Radiation Protection Procedures.

C. PRECAUTIONS

1. Care should be exercised when making direct measurements for contamination so not to contaminate or damage the instrument probe. Hold the probe in near contact with the area being surveyed but not touching the surface.

D. EGUIPMENT .

1. Scintillation detector connected with appropriate survey meter or a Micro-R-Meter

2. 1000 m1 sample bottles ,

3. Poly bags ,

4. Plant Site Map F. PROCEDURE

1. To start the instrument turn the switch to the BATT j position. The meter should indicate within the BATT OK j area, if not, tag the instrument out using a To Shop Tag. )

2. Place a check source near the end of the detector and ensure

, response is correct. ,,

3. Place the detector in near contact with the material (s) being surveyed and record results on Data Package 1 (Data Sheet 1). . l l

NOTE Survey all grid areas marked on'the plant site map. See l attached map.

If readings of two times background is observed then notify a Laboratory Foreman and obtain a sample of the substance found and obtain an isotopic analysis.
