H.H. LEA *sauno vica r--. man February 3, 1982 NtfCLEAR OPREATIONE Mr. James P. O'Reilly Serial No. 031 Regional Administrator N0/RMT:acm U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Docket No. 50-339 Region II License No. NPF-7 101 Marietta Street, Suite 3100 Atlanta, Georgia 30303
Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
By letter dated May 22, 1981, Serial No. 313, in response to I.E.
Bulletin 81-02, Vepco committed to performing certain modifications to North Anna Unit No.
2 valve Mov 2289B.
The original commitment stated, on page 2 of to tetter Serial No. 313, that during the next Unit 2 outage originally scheduled for October, 1981, the original 1.125 inch valve stem would be replaced with a 1.250 inch valve stem.
In a letter dated July 8, 1981 from Paul J. Kellogg to J.
H.
Ferguson which forwarded Inspection Report Nos. 50-338/81-15 and 50-339/81-12, inspection follow-up item 339/81-12-1 was identified which stated that the modification was being tested by Westinghouse prior to implementation.
The October 1981 outage was cancelled and the modification was rescheduled for the upcoming refueling period.
Vepco has received information from Westinghouse that the testing of the change is still not complete and that the parts are not available.
Based on this recent info rmation it will be necessary to defer this commitment until the maintenance outage currently scheduled for the Fall of 1982.
Should you have any questions or require any further information, please contact this office.
Very truly yours, R. H. Leasburg cc:
