Dear Mr. Keppler:

On December 8, 1981, Mr. T. D. Geib of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc. (PSI) notified your office of a potentially reportable item as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e). PSI Quality Assurance personnel discovered that existing procedures did not require that specification / design changes made via engineering change notices, specification amendments, or drawing revisions be contractually imposed on suppliers or contractors. This created the potential for specification / design changes to be left unincor-porated in the as-built configuration of safety related equipment or structures.

PSI is presently determining what, if any, design changes were left unincorporated in final as-built configurations. PSI will adopt procedural modifications which will ensure that specification / design changes are contractually imposed on suppliers and contractors. This letter is intended to fulfill the requirements of an interim report as defined in l

10 CFR 50.55(e). A further report will be filed on or before August 16, 1982.

If you have any questions on this matter, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely, S. W. Shields TDC/cjk cc: Director of Inspection and Enforcement U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 J. E. Konklin J. J. Ilarrison 8204220545 820407 PDR ADOCK 05000546 APR 9 1982 g PDR P. O Box 190, Now Washington, Indiana 47162 812. 289. 3000
