APPENDIX A NOTICE OF VIOLATION U.S. Department of Commerce Docket No.70-398 4
National Bureau of Standards Washington, D.C.
License No. SNM-362 As a result of the inspection conducted on March 16-19, 1982, and in accordance with the NRC Enforcement Policy (10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C), 47 FR 9887 (March 9, 1982), the following violation was identified:
Condition 10 of your facility License No. SNM-362, which incorporates Attachment No. 3 of your approved license application dated December 18, 1975, requires, in part, that special nuclear material is stored in 01n arrays located on either side of Room B118, Building 222 or in shipping containers in the center of the room.
Contrary to the above, on March 17, 1982, six boxes containing a tottl of 90 Standard Reference Material (SRM) samples of special nuclear material were stored adjacent to the bin array located on the right side of the storage room which is not an authorized location.
This is a Severity Level V violation (Supplement No. VIE).
Pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 2.201, the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Bureau of Standards is hereby required to submit to this office within thirty days of the date of this Notice, a written statement or explanation in reply, including:
(1) the corrective steps which have been taken and the results achieved; (2) corrective steps which will be taken to avoid further violations; and (3) the date when full compliance will be achieved. Under the authority of Section 182 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, this response shall be submitted under oath or affirmation. Where good cause is shown, consideration will be given to extending your response time.
