S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

This letter provides supplemental information to our letters of December 29, 1981 and February 5, 1982 ( S.

L.

Daltroff, PECo to D.

G.

Eisenhut, U.S.

N.R.C.) concerning scram system pipe breaks.

Table 5.1 of NUREG 0803 " Generic Safety Evaluation Report Regarding Integrity of the BWR Scram System Piping" recomends that the Scram Discharge Volume (SDV) should, as a minimum, be subjected to ASME Section XI In Service Inspection (ISI) requirements for Class 2 piping.

Our previous commitment was to inspect this piping equivalent to Class 2.

We have reviewed this commitment in consideration of our present ISI program, amongst other things, and find it appropriate to upgrade the SDV inspection program to ASME Section XI Class 1.

This change reduces the potential for misunderstanding and positively assures that the intention of the NUREG is met.

Should there be any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.

Very truly yours,

/ J.
