Perry Nuclear Power Plant Docket Nos. 50-440; 50-441, Interim Report on Reactor Pressure Vessel Water Level Transmitters (RDC 49(82))
Dear Mr. Keppler:
This letter will serve as the interim report pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e) concerning incorrectly sized water level transmitters in the Units 1 and 2 reactor pressure vessels. On March 12, 1982, Mr. E. Riley of The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company notified Mr. J. H. Neisler of your office that this deficiency had been identified.
This report contains a description of the deficiency, the planned corrective action, and the date scheduled for submittal of our final report.
DESCRIPTION OF DEFICIENCY The water level transmitters installed in the reactor pressure vessels have been determined to be wide range instead of narrow range as required by design. The transmitters installed are not capable of being adjusted to the required range and thus, cannot provide the intended safety signal. This equipment was supplied by General Electric as part of the Nuclear Steam Supply System. Notification of the reportable condition was received by The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company in a letter from General Electric dated February 10, 1982.
