Clinton Power Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-461 The control room design review was conducted by NRC Human Factors Engineering Branch in November 1981 at the Clinton Power Station.

At that time L. S. Brodsky and J. G. Cook, IP discussed with Ms. A. Ramey-Smith, NRC, the alternate ways of providing a common vessel level re-ference for vessel level measuring devices.

Illinois Power Company-has adcpted the bottom of the steam dryer skirt as the common reference point.

However, in so doing we did not wish for the operators to overlook important information that would be obvious if the scale used the top of active fuel (TAF) as the reference point.

Therefore, our proposed meter face includes two scales; one referenced to the bottom of the dryer skirt, the other referenced to the top of active fuel (TAF).

The attached photograph shows the scales mounted in a meter.

The true area of the meter face is about four times larger than that in the photograph.

A full size copy of the scales is also attached.
