During the past several months we have experienced a number of hardwarer/..$

failures causing the. silent test failures and inadvertent actuation of' the.fM r

Early Warning System (EWS) during the semi-monthly silent test at caused "I North Anns Power Stations.

These insdvertent actuations beve considerable concern to the local government and the general public.

In order to rectify the situation. it is intended that the existing equipment.i le will be upgraded to provide for improved reliability or that it will be. ']. ?[

replaced with more reliable and secura devices.

In the interia, pending the '.' <

final resolution of this probles, it is intended that silent testing of the '

system will be suspended.

The scheduled full scale tests and the quarterly

.f growl tests will be conducted as usual. The system modifications are intended.;,;;l to be coupleted on or shout May 1,

1982.

Silent testing will then be y conducted on the routine schedule as before..
