Interim Finding on Offsite Emergency Preparedness for the Palo Verde Nuclear Facility (Arizona)
Attached is a copy of the Federal Emergency Management Agency Region IX's interim finding for offsite emergency preparedness for the Palo Verde Facility.
2 The estimated date for completion of plans is mid-summer of 1982.
A joint exercise of the utility, State, and local government's plans is projected for September 29, 1982.
Although the offsite emergency reponse plans are still in the early development stage, there appears to be no significant impediment to their being satisfactorily developed as scheduled.

Region IX ' 211 Main Street, Room 220 San Francisco, CA 94105 APR 21 1982 MEMORANDUM FOR LEE M. THOMAS, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR STA ND OCAL PROGRAMS AND SUPPORT I Ro,/,, A4&Cb FROM:
L. Vickers, Regional Director r
SUBJECT:
d Interim Finding and Determination Statement Regarding the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station As of March 15, 1982, offsite emergency response planning for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station remains in the early development stages.
An informal plan review was conducted by the Region IX Regional Assistance Committee (RAC) in its " assistance" mode and the comments were provided to the planning staff.
No other actions regarding plans, exercise, or public meetings have been completed.
The combined State-County plan is currently estimated to ba completed around June or July,1982. As of the reporting date, the exercise and public meeting are currently unchanged and continue as anticipated.
At this time we feel there is insufficient evidence to render a finding regarding the ability of the offsite emergency response organizations to protect the health and safety of the public.
