Gsf8&L Carolina Power & Light Company MAY 191982 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation ATTN:

Mr. D. B. Vassallo, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 2 United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.

20555 BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-325 AND 50-324 LICENSE NOS. DPR-71 AND DPR 62 GENERIC LETTER 82-03

Dear Mr. Vassallo:

Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) has received Mr. D. G.

Eisenhut's Generic Letter 82-03, dated March 31, 1982, in reference to the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP) Unit Nos. 1 and 2.

CP&L does not require the application of the approved, but unapplied General Electric ECCS evaluation model changes to offset MAPLHGR penalties due to high burnup fission gas release at Brunswick. The BSEP MAPLHGR values indicate low peak cladding temperatures for each fuel type and subsequent burnup.

Therefore, at this time, CP&L does not wish to apply the GE proposal to the Brunswick Plant.

Yours very truly, Qh P. W. Howe Vice President Technical Services MSG /lr (n-60) cc:
