, Stand 1rdization and Special Project Branch Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555

Subject:

Proposed Relocation of the Emergency Control Station, Docket No. 50-184

Dear Mr. Bernard:

This refers to your and Mr. James R. Miller's recent visit to the NBS Reactor Facility and to the discussion we had regarding moving the emergency '.

control station from its present location, underground in front of the building, to the basement of the building which is also below ground level.

The new location will be more functional and more accessible. It is our understanding that you support the proposed relocation of the emergency control station. All existing controls, instrumentation and other equipment will also be moved or duplicated in the new location. All required checks will be performed as.before. As a result of the discussion, you indicated that NBS may go ahead with relocating the emergency control station without prior authorization of the NRC as provided for in 10CFR50.59.

Sincerely, f c W%$ ./$ . hv%Y%
