The plant entered March operating at 100%. Power was reduced to 91% on i
March 5 for control valve testing. pow r was back at 100% the same day.
Reduced power to 72% on March 19 in accordance with request from the Load Dispatcher as a result of favorable hydroelectric conditions in the region. The plant was shut down to Mode 3 on March 26.
Favorable hydroelectric conditions and economic considerations justified remaining down the rest of the month. The plant entered Mode 5 on March 31 and activities began for the April refueling autage.
MAJOR SAFETY RELATED MAINTENANCE: Completed annual preventive maintenance on the west Joy air compressor and the PDP charging pump. Completed the modification to the steam turbine driven auxiliary feedwater pump trip valve.
MISCELLANEOUS MAINTENANCEt Completed the waste gas compressor modifications, replaced the seale on the south BIT recirculation pump, completed the 5-year inspection of the north screen wash pump, replaced the
'B' flatbed filter belt,and completed maintenance j
on the cold lab relief valves.
Replaced the pressurizer sample valves, completed the modification to the PERM-9 spool piece, completed maintenance on the
'B' main steam PORV, and completed a cleanup of the CST.

LICENSE CHANGES: License Change Amendment 70 - Issued March 3, 1982 I
This amendment deletes the requirements relating to part -length control rod assemblies,

thereby allowing their removal from the reactor core.

MISCELLANEOUS :
Reactor coolant system activity continued to increase during the month up until the redaction in power. The dose equivalent iodine level reached 84% of the Technical Specificatlon limit before dropping to 63% prior to plant shutdown.
Received an advisory trom the volcano center concerning an expected eruption on March 12.
An eruption occurred on March 19 with no effect on plant operations.
Minor volcanic activity continued for the rest of the month.
