Docket No. 50-322 (0L)

PDR/LPDR

Dear Administrative Judges:

On May 5, 1982, I informed the Board (Tr. 1408-1410) that the NRC Staff had received and was reviewing the Applicant's latest submittal on open item #62, remote shutdown panel (SC 1). The submittal, SNRC-691, J. L. Smith to H. R. Denton, April 20, 1982, is a response to NRC Staff questions.223.93 through 223.99, dated February 11, 1982.

The Staff has now completed its review of the submittal and has found that the responses are not adequate. Therefore the Staff will not be able to close the open item at this time.

Further discussions with the Applicant and an amended submittal are anticipated.

It is not yet possible to estimate a date for closing the item, but it will largely depend on the time necessary for the further responses by the Applicant.

The NRC Staff will keep the Board informed of further developments in the Staff review of this open item.

Sincerely, l

l David A. Repka l
