20555 Attention:

Mr.

R. A. Clark, Chief Operating Reactors, Branch 3 Gentlemen:

DOCKET NOS. 50-266 AND 50-301 1

STEAM GENERATOR SLEEVING PROGRAM POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 This is to provide information requested verbally by Mr. Colburn of your staff regarding radiation exposure estimates for installation of cleeves in steam generator tubes as described in Figure 8.6-1 of the Point Beach Steam Generator Sleeving Report, WCAP-9960, Revision 1 (Reprint), (Proprietary)

(" Sleeving Report").

A copy of this figure is provided as Attachment 1.

The estimated exposures in Attachment 1 are based upon the use of semi-remote equipment for. installation of sleeves and equipment and processes described in the Sleeving Report.

Initial dose rates are conservatively assumed to be 30 Rem /hr in the channel head, 12 Rem /hr at the channel head manway, and 3 Rem /hr in general platform areas around the channel head.

Estimates of radiation exposure per sleeve installed are based'upon estimated personnel occupancy times in the channel head and adjacent areas during sleeving installation.

With the semi-remote equipment, it is estimated that [

la,c,e of channel head time is required l

per sleeve.

Approximately [

la,c,e and [

la,c,e per sleeve are required in the manway and platform areas, respectively.

This results in an estimated radiation exposure per sleeve of

[

la,c,e person-rem, assuming no decontamination of the steam generator channel head prior to sleeving.

This exposure estimate is the basis for the upper curve in Attachment 1.

Other exposure estimates are calculated by applying various channel head decontami-nation factors to this value.

This letter and attachment contain information which is proprietary to Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

In conformance with the requirements of 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regula-tions, we request that the information contained within brackets be withheld from public disclosure.
