REF: Final Report dated March 15, 1982, to Mr. James Keppler
Dear Mr. Keppler:
In a letter to your office dated March 15, 1982, we transmitted our Final Report pursuant to 10CFR50 55(e) concerning suppression pool stainless steel cladding sensitization in the Reactor Building suppression pools of Units I and II.
The purpose of this letter is to clarify the fact that the Final Report was a plan of action with only the fracture / fatigue modeling of the containment structure being complete, at the time of submittal.
During a meeting conducted at PIGT on April 21, 1982, Mr. Kavin ward, of your office, requested clarification and a tentative schedule for the balance of work to be performed. Our tentative schedule is as follows:
1.
By May 15, 1982, preliminary test results are expected from Aptech Engineering for the twenty-thousand cycle duty tests performed on fourteen (14) coated specimens of 304 stainless steel material.
2.
By July 1,1982, romal reco=mendations will be made based on the in-situ test program for the stainless specimens that will be exposed to suppression pool water and monitored over the life of the plant on a periodic basis.
3 We presently anticipate that the proposed coating program will be completed by the end of 1982.

1982 t'e also agreed to provide a statement clarifying the scope of the coatings effort.
Our intent is to coat all welds in the containment vessel vall and the drywell vest structure. Presently we do not intend to coat the containment floor plate welds because liquid penetrant examination of these welds has not revealed any fissuring and the floor plate was the least sensitized of any of the 304 clad material utilized in the suppression pool.
If there are any substantial changes to our plan of action, you will be notified.
Mr. Ward will be notified when more definitive dates are established for drple-mentation of this program.
