Docket No. 50-285 IE Inspection Report 81-16

Dear Mr. Collins:

Omaha Public Power Dist-ict's response, dated September 4,1981, to the subject Inspection Report provided the District's schedule for upgrading the Fort Calhoun Station quality assurance (QA) vault to ANSI N45.2.9-1979 design criteria.

The extensive scope required by the installation of the large r. umber of TMI mcdifications and equipment during the 1981 refueling outage preempted completion of the necessary vault design and modification work by February 28, 1982. Actions which have been completed include review and approval of the preliminary design, and the final design package will be completed and available for plant approval by March 1, 1982.

Following review and approval of the final design, the District estimates equipment and parts delivery for the modifications will require approximately five weeks.

Based on this schedule, the District expects to complete the vault modifications by June 1, 1982.

Upgrading the QA vault to ANSI N45.2.9-1979 criteria will require installation of a two-hour fire rated ceiling, two fire rated dampers, a two-hour fire rated door, smoke / fire detectors, a fire suppression system, and removal of the existing air conditioner.

Completion of these modifications will provide the Fort Calhoun Station with a QA vault that meets all requirements for a single storage facility.
