Subject:
Enqineered Safeguards Review for Single Failure
Dear Sir:
Reference (b) mquested Maine Yankee to review engineered safeguards system initiation circuits to determine if any single component failure would prevent the system from being actuated.
The following systems, which are defined in the Maine Yankee FSAR as Engineered Safeguards have been reviewed.
1.
Containment Isolation 2.
Recirculation Actuation 3.
Containment Spray Actuation The method used was a technical review of each electrical logic diagram for single failure problems.
This included actuation logic, bypass logic and manual control.
We have determined that these systems comply with single failure criteria.
We trust this information is satisfactory. Should you have any further questions, olease feel free to contact us.
Sincerely, MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY 820430o697
