Facility operation; physical inventory and records and reports.

summarized the scope and findings of the inspection.

The Research Laboratories of Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York, are engaged in research and development work related to information recording processes..The research and development activity involves most 4
areas of chemistry, physics, and biochemistry.
In the Research Laboratories a specially designed and equipped area is used for neutron activation analysis and'radiotracer work.
It is in this area that a Californium Neutron Flux Multiplier (CFX) which utilizes 1,583 grams of Uranium-235, was installed for neutron activation analyses and for the testing of recording materials for neutron radiography.

85212 - Physical Inventory

No violations were identified.
The licensee's physical inventory of special nuclear material consisted of 181 aluminum alloy CFX-1 fuel plates, containing 1,583 grams of U-235-of 93% enriched uranium, that had been installed on March 18, 1975 in the CFX-1 neutron multiplier.
Subsequent to the installation, the apparatus was sealed with tamper proof i
seals (IRT-021, IRT-022) attached to the bolts holding the motor base plate in place. Access to the fuel plates requires.the removal of the bolts and the breaking of the seals.
The seals were intact.

A complete review of the Material Status Reports (Form NRC-742) submitted '
during the material balance periods of April 1, 1977, through March 31, 1982, were reviewed for proper signature timely submission and accuracy of data.
No discrepancies were noted.
