SUMMARY

OF OPERATING' EXPERIENCE-

! Docket Na. 50-266

} Unit Name Point Beach Unit 1 Date April 6, 1982

-Completed By C. W. Fay Telephone 414/277-2811 Unit 1 operated at 422 MWe net with one scheduled outage. The unit was taken off line at 0338 hours0.00391 days
0.0939 hours
5.588624e-4 weeks
1.28609e-4 months
on 03/26/82 for a scheduled steam generator tube inspection. A hydro-static test of both steam generators was conducted on 03/29/82

and recommendations were made to weld repair and/or plug. -

j tubes in the "A" and "B" generators. Eddy current testing was in progress at the close of the month.

A 24-hour written notification of the degraded steam [

generator tubes was made to the NRC on 03/30/82 under j Licensee Event Report No. 82-907/01T-0. The outage is

proceeding on schedule and the unit should return to power i generation on 04/10/82.

J I

On 03/12/82, a 24-hour written notification'for Licensee Event Report No. 82-006/01T-0 on leakage of containment isolatior. valves in excess of allowable limits was issued.

The situation was discovered during the assemblage of the i Unit 1 10 CFR 50 Appendix J containment leak rate testing report. It was found that the total Type "B" and "C".as-found leakage for 1979 and 1980 exceeded the Technical Specification limit, but no report was filed. In both cases, one valve was the cause of the high leakage; the service air supply check valve in 1979 and the component cooling to the "B" reactor coolant pump check _ valve in

1980. The valves were repaired and the leakage was well ~

! below the allowable limits in each case before the unit l was returned to service following the refueling outages.

! Also, in both cases, the second isolation valve was tested l satisfactorily thus preventing any safety concern.

On 03/23/82, three items of deficient installation were noted on the Unit 1 containment pressure transmitters.

j The deficiencies involved-improper installation of conduit.

i It was determined that transmitters lPT-945, 1PT-946 and l 1PT-949 were not operationally affected. Two of the de-i ficiencies were immediately corrected and the third one is undergoing evaluation at this time. A 30-day Licensee

Event Report will be filed on this event.

t Safety-related maintenance included installation of seismic restraints and TMI electrical equipment backfitting.
