repaired and the unit was returned to service at 1644 on September 1st.

The unit was then in coastdown operation until 1801 on September 19th when it was taken off line for the Cycle 6-7 refueling.

Some degradation of steam generator tubes was seen during eddy current -

{

testing (which is not complete).,It is expected about two dozen tubes will be plugged. Estimated restart date is October 23rd.

SPENT FUEL STORAGE UPDATE

Date of last refueling that can be discharged with present capacity - 1988**

  • NRC authorized an increase in spent fuel storage capacity from 687 to 1582 spaces on May 13, 1981, but the approval li.aited the number of spent fuel assemblies which may be stored to 1120 until the heavy loads issue has been evaluated for Prairie Island.
    • Pool No. I has been modified increasing the current capacity to 1017. Pool No. 2 will be modified prior to the next refueling.

i Minor steam generator tube leakage had been observed for some time.

On September 3rd the leakage had increased to the point where it was a:

felt the defective tube could be located by hydrostatic testing,.so at 2117 the unit was taken out of service.

It was found that one wrong tube end had been plugged during the spring refueling. Details z

The unit was returned to i

service at 1633 on September 13th and is base loaded at this time, r
