SUBJECT:

EllVIR0tiMENTAL QUALIFICATI0ft 0F SAFETY RELATED ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT The staff's letter dated May 22, 1981 transmitted the staff Safety Evaluation Report (SER) on the Environmental Qualification of Safety Related Electrical Equipment and requested a response to the SER within ninety days. The AP&L Co. letter and submittal dated September 14, 1981 responded to the staff's SER. We reviewed that response and during January 1982 we determined that the response did not provide sufficient information to enable us to evaluateu the bases for your justification for continued operation pending the completion of qualification activities on certain components. As a result of discussions between our staffs, AP&L Co. supplemented the Septem-ber 14, 1981 submittal by letters dated February 18, 1982, February 27, 1982 and March 10, 1982.

We have reviewed the information that you provided in the February 18, February 27 and March lli, 1982 letters to supplement your 90 day response to the staff's SER and have concluded that you have now provided enough detailed information to support your justification for interim safe opera-tion. Our review of your ov'er111 Trnvir.onmental' qualification program sub-mittals is continuing.

Sincerely.
