Subject:

Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Units Nos. 1 & 2; Dockets Nos. 50-317 & 50-318 IE Bulletin 80-Oh, Request for Additional Information

Reference:

NRC letter dated 1/20/82 from R. A. Clark to A. E. Lundvall, Jr.

Gentlemen:

The referenced letter requested additional infornation concerning the nredicted respor.se of the Calvert Cliffs reactors to a main steam line break accident with continued feedvater addition. The request addressed two itens of concern with several questions on each iten. As a result of a telephone conversation with our NRC Project Manager, we understand that questions k and 5 of Item 1 have been deleted, as have questions b and 5 of Item 2.

However, question 3 of each item has been expanded to include a request for a justification of the methods and asaunptions used in the anal / sis of each item.

After considerable investigation, we have found it necessary to extend the schedule for responding to your request until October 20, 1982. This extension is required to allow us to arrange, coordinate and review the several interrelated analyses necessary to respond to your request.

If you have any questions concerning our approach to this matter or our schedule for response, we would be pleased to discuss them with you.

Very truly ours, r
