Staff Concurrence for Grouting of Crocb"$ Concrete A

O By 50.55(c) reports, neetings ar.d testinony during the February 16, 1982, nr3 session, you have advised the NRC of plans for reredial reasures regarding cra ng of the concrete foundations for the Borated Water Storage Tanks for flidland Plant, Units 1 and 2.

Your plans include stiffening of the ring foundation by construction of a concentric reinforced concrete ring beau attached to the existing ring found-ation by shear connectors. Preparations for construction of the new ring bean have included surcharging the adjacent valve pits, and staff concurrences for surcharge placerent and renoval were indicated by rty letters of September 25, 1981, and February 26, 1982, respectively.

Your preparations for construction of the new bean also include grouting of cracks in the existing concrete foundations. At least all cracks with widths in excess of 10 nils are to be pressure grouted. The NRC staff agrees that grouting will protect reinforcing bars in the existing foundations from the long tern effects of corrosion and concurs with your plans to proceed with grouting of the existing cracks.

This confirns the verbal concurrence of our Licensing Project Manager to Mr. J. Mooney of your corpany on Narch 19, 1932.

Sincerely, Original signed by l
