Subject:

10 CFR 73.21. " Protection of Unclassified Safeguards Information" This is in response to your letter of January 18, 1982 (Dutton to Kasun),

regarding protection of safeguards information transmitted or processed on the Southern Company Services' (SCS) system.

In that letter Georgia Power Company (GPC) outlined and described the capabilities of the SCS data processing and communicating systems.

Based on our evaluation we have determined that GPC's oroposed protection measures meet the intent of 10 CFR 73.21. " Protection of Unclassified Safeguards Information." Accordingly, GPC's proposal for processing and transmitting protected safeguards information is aooroved, subject to the stipulation that the code used to orotect the safeguards information be changed periodically or whenever compromise is susoected.
