7 REVIEW OF LASALLE'S INDEPENDENT DESIGN VERIF l

SUBJECT:
In a letter from Commonwealth Edison Company dated January 29, 1982, your program specification that will be performed on LaSalle for the independent design verification was addressed.
In this letter you requested the NRC staff's comments in order that they may be incorporated into the program.
We have reviewed this specification and find it acceptable with the exception that we disagree with the statement that "The electrical aspects of the design do not require review because they are verified during preoperational and startup testing." We believe that all safety-related electrical equipment components presently installed in the system covered by the design verification program must be assessed independently e'
to assure that their mechanical and structural design requirements have been met. This will net be verified during preoperational and startup listing. Therefore, we require that these electrical equipment / components be included withir. the scope of the design verification program.

addition, we had some minor comments that were communicated by telephone to your personnel (L. DelGeorge).
Except for the above, we essentially s
find that the progcam meets our requirements.
