Background
License Condition 36 of SNM-1107 requires that loaded UF6 cylinders have valve covers in place during movement.
W recently received thirteen (13) cylinders which do not provide Tor valve covers.
W_
requests authorization to move these cylinders from an onsite storage pad to the vaporizers inside the Manufacturing Building.
II. Discussion If authorized, W would provide special training in emergency actions to the transfer equipment operator and a supervisory representative who would accompany the cylinder movement.
In the event that a valve were damaged during movement, radiological consequences should be minimal because (a) the cylinders have a slightly negative pressure at ambient temperatures, (b) the UF6 is a solid at ambient temperatures, and (c) the supervisory representative can initiate prompt emergency au.lon, if needed.
III.
Conclusion The proposed activity should have no adverse effect on the public health and safety or on the environment. Approval of the application is recommended.
