Purcose:

To advise the Commissioners of additional staff analysis and provide a recommendation on an issue with potential national policy implica-tions concerning the disposition of large quantities of weapons grade special nuclear material (SNM) resulting from dismantlement of nuclear weapons.

Backaround:

Prompted by United States and Russian announce-ments of their intentions to dismantle part of their existing nuclear warhead inventories, the staff prepared an information paper for the

' Commission, dated February 25, 1992, concerning the disposition of'the excess SNM reclaimed from the disarmanent program (SECY-92-064,
