Subject:
McGuire Nuclear Station NPDES Permit No. NC0024392 Request for Approval to Use Dispersant File: MC-702.13
Certified : P 384 361034
Dear Ms. Sullins:
McGuire Nuclear Station would like to request approval to use a dispersant called Calgon CL-4000. This chemical product will be used in one of our raw water systems on a temporary basis as a part of a study. The use of dispersant in our systems has already been addressed in our permit application under Outfall 001. Also, in a letter to you dated July 9,1992, McGuire was allowed the use of this dispersant in a similar request .
Approximately 312 pounds of this dispersant will be injected daily down stream of a nuclear service water pump in order to inhibit silt deposition in one train of the RN system. Effluent from the system will be diluted by approximately 2,500 MGD of once *
- through cooling water prior to discharge at the permitted outfall.
We roquest approval to begin using this dispersant on or near September 20, 1993, ar- . ;i'l October 31, 1993. Please find enclosed an MSLS sheet for this product.
We e.c neciate your consideration of this request. Should you have questiens or need uiditional information, please contact Norma Atherton at (704) 875-5963.
Sincerely,
