July 2, 1993 Docket No. 50-206 Harold B. Ray Senior Vice President Southern California Edison Co.

Irvine Operations Center 23 Parker Street Irvine, California 92718

SUBJECT:

EXEMPTION FROM THE REQUIREMENTS OF 10 CFR 50.54(y) REGARDING THE SAN ON0FRE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, UNIT 1 (TAC NO. M85768)

By letter dated February 8,1993, Southern California Edison Company requested an exemption from the 10 CFR 50.54(y) requirement that a licensed senior operator must approve any emergency action which departs from a license condition or Technical Specification.

l Based on the considerations discussed in the exemption, we have concluded that the information provided, and the actions described in the application, form an acceptable basis for the granting of an exemption. The Commission has determined, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.12, that an exemption is authorized by law, will not present an undue risk to the public health and safety, and is j

consistent with the common defense and security.

The exemption is enclosed. A copy of the exemption is being forwarded to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
