l This-is in response to your letter dated June'1, 1993, in which you expressed reservations regarding.the potential for timely reviews of amendment. requests from licensees implementing the provisions of-the revised 10 CFR Part 20.

particular, you noted that four facilities had already indicated _ a desire-to j

utilize site-specific information.on airborne particulates and anticipate requesting modifications to airborne ' uranium exposure. limits. Additionally, you speculate that amendment requests may be forthcoming on' items such as.

action limits and terminology.

In this regard, we agree that you are probably correct in your speculations and have initiated action to cope with the anticipated needs for timely action.

The Division Fuel Cycle Safety and Safeguards staff is currently reviewing a request from General Electric involving revised Part 20 provisions and is utilizing.this opportunity to develop a generic' approach that will be useful.

in subsequent reviews.

In addition, we are working with'our Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research to develop procedures to facilitate the large number of amendment reviews anticipated. Development of these procedures is a high priority for the staff and, once in place, they are expected to provide for an:

efficient and uniform review process.
