u>ps/12 Nuclear Regulatory Commission To whom it may concern:
Enclosed is a letter that I have hand delivered to a representative of the Carolina Power and Light Co. As a governmental agency charged with preservation of the public safety, I urge you to permanently close the Brunswick County nuclear plant.
Thi s plant was built poorly and is located in a very dangerous hurricane area. It is not in the best interests of the citizens of the Wilmington area to be exposed to the releases of radiation from the damage to this plant, brought on by a hurricane or earthquake.
The population of the Wilmington area is quite small, and the Carolina Power and Light co. was able to supply ample _ energy to the citizens all during the plant shutdown. There is.no emergency that would qualify the risk of reopening this plant. Decisions are being made because of the initial investment of money, not because of public safety or public needs. That is why I am appealing to you as a representative of the federal government to protect us from this ticking time bomb.
If you allow this plant to be reopened and a hurricane strikes here, you will be haunted with the lost lives resulting from your action.
