SUBJECT: INSPECTION NO. 50-293/93-04
This refers to the announced inspection intended to promote public health and safety.
conducted by Mr. R. McBrearty of this _ office on April 12-16,1993, of activities authorized
by the NRC. Mr. McBrearty discussed the findings with Mr. E. Kraft, Jr., of your staff at
the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report,
which is enclosed with this letter. The inspection focused on the inservice inspection
program and its implementation at Pilgrim. Inspections of program implementation are used
to determine that programs you have in place to detect inservice degradation confirm the
plant's acceptability for continued safe operation and satisfy your commitments and
regulatory requirements. Generally, we found your program implementation satisfactory.
Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and
representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Within the scope of this inspection, we concluded that the areas examined during this
inspection are being conducted in accordance with requirements, and no violations were
observed.
