DAILY HIGHLIGHT - ACCEPTANCE OF THE GE NUCLEAR ENERGY'S (GE's) APPLICATION FOR FINAL DESIGN APPROVAL AND STANDARD DESIGN CERTIFICATION FOR THE SIMPLIFIED BOILING WATER REACTOR (SBWR) PLANT DESIGN In a letter dated May 27, 1993, the Standardization Project Directorate i
informed GE that the NRC staff considers the SBWR application sufficiently complete to be accepted formally as a docketed petition for design certification.
GE had tendered the application on August 27, 1992, and provided additional information on February 25 and 28 and May 7,1993, in response to the NRC staff's identification of missing or incomplete information during the acceptance review.
A notice relating to NRC acceptance of the application is being sent to the Office of the Federal Register for publication. The acceptance of the application starts the formal review of the SBWR application. The review.
schedule provided in SECY-93-097, " Integrated Review Schedules for the Evolutionary and Advanced Light Water Reactor Projects," April 14, 1993, anticipates final design approval of the SBWR in May 1996, and issuance of a proposed design certification rule in June 1996.
