APPENDIX A NOTICE OF DEVIATION

Docket No.: 50-313 Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 1 License No.: DPR-51 During an NRC inspection conducted on March 7 through April 17, 1993, a failure to meet your commitments was identified.
In accordance with the
" General Statement of Policy and Procedure for NRC Enforcement Actions,"
10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C (1993), the deviation-is listed below:
Safety Analysis Report paragraph 1.4.4 states, in part, that the basic design criterion for structures, systems, and components important to safety prohibits loss of function associated with environmental conditions during normal operation.
Contrary to the above, on February 15, 1/2 gallon of condensate was found in the limit switch compartment of the Limitorque valve operator for Emergency Feedwater Pump Turbine Steam Admission' Valve CV-2663, i
making the pump vulnerable to an overspeed trip if it had been called upon to function. The contributing cause was determined to be a lack of installed drains in the limit switch compartment. The design did not-require that a drain be installed in the limit switch compartment.
This failure to meet your commitment constitutes one deviation (313/9304-01).
Although 10 CFR Section 2.201 requires you to submit to this office, within 20 days of your receipt of this Notice, a written statement of explanation, we r
note that the corrective actions being taken adequately address the concerns identified within the Notice of Deviation. Therefore, no response with t
respect to the Notice is required.
