Docket Nos. 50-220

Mr. B. Ralph Sylvia

Executive Vice President - Nuclear

Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation

301 Plainfield Road

Syracuse, New York 13212

_

.

Dear Mr. Sylvia:

SUBJECT: INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-220/934)7 AND 50-410/93-07

l

This refers to the announced inspection intended to promote the health and safety of the

l

public conducted by Mr. H. Kaplan of this office on April 12-16,1993, at Nine Mile Point

Unit I and Unit 2. The results of the inspection were discussed with Messrs. K. Dahlberg

and M. McCormick of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I inspection report

which is enclosed with this letter. The inspection focused on the inservice inspection (ISI)

!

program at Unit 1 and the erosion / corrosion (E/C) monitoring program at Unit 1 and Unit 2.

The inspection was an extension of two previous inspections (50-410/92-07 and 50-220/93-

02) covering the ISI and E/C programs. These inspections were performed to determir 7 that

programs you have in place to detect inservice degradation confirm the plant's acceptability

for continued safe operation. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective

examinations of representative records and interviews with personnel.

Within the scope of this inspection, we concluded that the programs examined during this

l

t

inspection were being conducted in accordance with Code requirements and no violations

were observed.

Sincerely,

,
