n May 18,1993 Docket No. 50-443 Serial No. SEA-93-009 Mr. Ted C. Feigenbaum Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation Post Office Box 300 Seabrook, New Hampshire 03874

Dear Mr. Feigenbaum:

SUBJECT:

NORTH ATLANTIC ENERGY SERVICE CORPORATION RESPONSE TO NRC BULLETIN 89-01, SUPPLEMENT 2: FAILURE OF WESTINGHOUSE STEAM GENERATOR TUBE MECHANICAL PLUGS (TAC M81658)

NRC Bulletin 89-01, Supplement 2, dated June 28, 1991, requested that actions similar to those requested in Bulletin 89-01 be extended to include all Westinghouse mechanical plugs fabricated from thermally-treated Inconel 600.

These actions were necessary to ensure that these plugs would continue to provide adequate assurance for reactor coolant system (RCS) pressure boundary integrity under normal operating conditions and transient and postulated

. accident conditions.

North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation (NAESCO) responded to Supplement 2 to Bulletin 89-01 by letter dated July 30, 1991. That response addressed the actions requested by Supplement 2.

We have reviewed your response to Supplement 2 and the additional information related to the status of planned actions that was provided by letter from NAESCO dated December 29, 1992. We find the information and your planned and completed actions to be acceptable.

i Therefore, we plan no further action with respect to TAC M81658.

Sincerely,

{
