SUBJECT:

NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-458/93-03

This refers to the inspection conducted by Messrs. C. E. Johnson and

L. E. Ellershaw of this office from February 8-12, 1993. The inspection

included a review of activities authorized for your River Bend' Station

'

facility. At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed

with those members of your staff identified in the enclosed report.

Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within

these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures

and representative records, interviews with personnel,.and observation of-

activities in progress. The results of this inspection are documented in the

enclosed report.

Two unresolved items were identified concerning the controls over maintenance

activities affected by maintenance work orders and modification requests, and

the controls over replacing back inte arvice equipment that was removed for

maintenance. These items, as they relate to safety-related equipment, will be

'

reviewed at a later tine. These matters are discussed in Section 2.4 of the

enclosed inspection report.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of

this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
