SUBJECT:

RESPONSE TO NRC BULLETIN 92-01, SUPPLEMENT 1, FAILURE OF THERM 0-LAG 330 FIRE BARRIER SYSTEM" (TAC NO. M83879)

By letters dated July 24 and September 25, 1992, you provided responses to NRC l

Bulletin 92-01 for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGtC).

Your responses stated that compensatory measures have been implemented consistent with the plant Technical Specifications or operating license.

operability.

Appropriate actions to resolve fire barrier concerns are being developed through an industry program coordinated by NUMARC. This program will include establishment of a test database, development of guidance for applicability of tests, and coordination of additional testing as appropriate.

We will apply the results of these efforts, when completed, to the Thermo-Lag 330 installations at GGNS.

We have reviewed your responses and find them acceptable.

Please inform us when all corrective actions have been completed.

Further NRC review, if any, will be performed by inspection or audit.
