Dear Dr. Baker:

On January 24, 1989, Amersham Corporation requested that Certificate of Compliance No. 9160 be extended for six months to allow time to prepare a consolidated application.

Subsequently, on February 21, 1989, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission amended the Certificate of Compliance to extend the expiration date to October 30, 1989.

By letter dated September 22, 1989, you again requested renewal of Certificate of Compliance No. 9160 for the Model No. 20 VS and 40 VS shipping packages, without providing a consolidated application. Since that time, there inve been exchanges of correspondence concerning operating procedures, but to date Amersham Corporation has not submitted a consolidated application.

In order to renew Certificate of Compliance No. 9160, we need a consolidated application. The consolidated application should demonstrate that ti. package design meets the requirements of 10 CFR Part 71.

The consolidated application should also include engineering drawings of the package and proceclures for operating, maintaining and accepting the package.

Unless we receive a consolidated application within 45 days from the date of this letter, we intend to terminate Certificate of. Compliance No. 9160 under

.the provisions of 10 CFR 62.108(a),
