SUBJECT:

MEET 1HG

SUMMARY

ON STAR CORE RELOAD CODE l

On June 5, 1990, the NRC staff met with representatives of Maine Yankee and

[

Yankee Atomic Electric Company to discuss the Space and Time Analysis of l

Reactors (STAR) core reload code. The need for the new code is due to the.

-l eroding of the main steam line break (MSLB) shutdown margin based on the i

presently applied codes. The-licensee presented an outline of the STAR code as-well as a potential schedule for submittal to the NRC so that staff review could be complete in time to apply the code for the Cycle 13 reload (November j

1991).

The staff indicated that the licensee's schedule was realistic and that staff review could be completed in time to apply the STAR code for the Cycle 13 reload provided adequate funding was available for the review. Confirmation of funding for the. review will not be available until the budget for FY 1991 is approved.

A copy of the licensee's briefing material and a list of meeting attendees is enclosed.
