Dear Mr. Kingsley:
.
SUBJECT:
SYSTEMATIC ASSESSMENT OF LICENSEE PERFORMANCE (SALP)
(NRC INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-327/90-09AND50-328/90-09)
The NRC SALP Board has completed its periodic evaluation of your Sequoyah
facility for the period of February 4, 1989 to March 5, 1990. The results of
the evaluation are documented in the enclosed Initial SALP Report. This
report will be discussed with you at the Sequoyah site, at 9:00 a.m. on
May 30, 1990.
The performance of your Sequoyah facility was evaluated in the functional
,
areas of plant operations, radiological controls, maintenance / surveillance,
emergency preparedness security, engineering / technical support, and safety
assessment /qualityverIfication.
'
,
The assessment indicates that performance in all areas exceeded regulatory
i
'
requirements.
In addition, significant improving performance trends were
noted in the areas of Plant Operations, Radiological Controls, and
,
Maintenance / Surveillance.
Overall performance at the Sequoyah site also
was identified as improving. We commend you and your staff on these
,
achievements.
'
,
Although the SALP is generally positive in its findings, there are a number of
,
areas where continued management attention should be provided.
These areas
are. identified in the body of the SALP report.
.
Any comments you have concerning our evaluation of the performance of your
Sequoyah facility should be submitted to this office within 30 days following
'
the date of our meeting.
These comments will be considered in the development
of the Final SALP report.
Your comments and a summary of our meeting will be
issued as an appendix to the Final SALP report.
