The purpose of this letter is to provide information cencerning the Generic Fundamentals Examination Section (GFES) of the operator licensing written examination to be administered on June 6, 1990. The PWR GFES and BWR GFES will be administered at the time and the location specified in Enclosure 1.
Included with this letter is:
c e A map of the area including the time and location where the examinationswillbeadministered(Enclosure 1),
- o. A list of lodging in the immediate area (Enclosure 1),
o Thenameandtelephonenumberoftheregionalcontact(Enclosure 1),
and o Preliminary instructions.for those taking the examination (Enclosure 2).

Please ensure that each participant receives a copy of the instructions.
We are pleased with.your response in support of this effort. The results of the examination should be available within 3 weeks following completion of the examination. A master copy of each version of the examination 'with answers, a table showing the scores of each candidate, and a copy of the answer sheet for each participant will be sent to the facility training department.

Pre-Examination Instructions for the Generic Fundamentals Examination Section of-the Written Examination - June 1990 The following). instructions apply for the Generic Fundamentals Examination Section(GFES of the Written Operator Licensing Examination to be administered.
on June.6, 1990.
A.
Identificatien - All participants must present. photo identification (i.e., facility photo-bacge, state criver's license) and sign a roster sheet prior to receiving an examination.
B.
Information provided with the Examination - Each examination package will include an examination, a copy of the steam tables, an ' Equations and Constants' Sheet, a ' machine gradable' answer sheet and instruc-tions on filling out the answer sheet. All material must be turned in at the' completion of the examination.
C.
Use of Calculators - Use of personal pocket calculators and/or slide rules wiij be permitted during the examination. NRC will not supply calculators, so the participant should ensure that batteriTs~are new or have been recently changed. @ other examination aids will be permitted.
D.
Examination Administration - The examination will be administered using the criteria contained in ES-201 of NUREG-1021, " Operator Licening Examiner Standards," as modified by instructions provided at the time the examination is administered.
E.
Decision to Withdraw - If for any reason prior to June 4, 1990, a

participant decides to not take the examination, please inform your NRC. regional contact.
F.
Examination Duration - The time designated to complete the examination, which will consist of 100 multiple-choice cuestions, is two and one-half hours. All participarts will be required to hand in their examinations l'
two and one-half hours after the proctor-designated initial start.
